When I started Weelicious over 8 years ago (I still can’t believe it’s been that long), the first thing my husband told me to do was make cooking videos to show moms they can cook with their kids. As I had been hosting TV shows for years it seemed easy enough as long as I had a good crew to help me out. He told me not to worry! He would shoot, direct and edit the videos so that we could have one a week. I knew I was in trouble when after shooting the first one it still hadn’t been edited for 3 weeks. I had to come up with a plan B.
I found myself taking matters into my own hands by going to my local Apple store and taking their one on one classes to learn how to edit myself. I took several classes with the same kind person and quickly realized it was going to be quite a mountain to climb cooking, keeping my then 6 month old in check as we shot and then editing on top of it. The sweet gentleman who taught me said he had seen my blog, liked it, was a director himself and offered to shoot for me. This had to be a dream! When I tell you I couldn’t have done it without Mike I mean it. We still shoot together all these years later and he’s the most kind, talented soul.
This all leads me to the place where these videos live… you guessed it, YouTube. I’ve now had my YouTube channel for all these years and it’s been amazing to watch the community grow to over 150,000 subscribers! I always intended for Weelicious to be a place for parents to find recipes, cooking tips, giveaways and more, but over the years I’ve seen something incredible. Over 10% of the viewership on the Weelicious YouTube channel is 13-17 years old. At first I was perplexed, but then realized that kids these days want to cook and learn more about food. It’s amazing to see how the kids I’ve hoped would become better eaters are the ones leading the charge in the kitchen.
I hope you take a few minutes to jump on over to the Weelicious YouTube page to checkout the 300+ videos made over the years including favorites like Yukon Gold Potato Fans, Homemade Strawberry Fruit Leather, Egg in the Hole and Chocolate Banana Ice Cream in the Blender. If you have comments feel free to leave them here or over there and if there’s a video missing that you want to see I’m happy to make it for you!
